| Cellcom Leads the Way in Providing New Technology to Wireless Phone Users |

Cellcom announced today that the company has joined the Femto Forum. Cellcom is the first CMDA carrier in the U.S. to be a member of the non-profit organization founded in 2007 to promote worldwide femtocell deployment.
Rob Riordan, executive vice president and director of corporate development, said, “Femto technology offers a low cost and highly effective solution to dead zones, particularly in small areas such as the home.”
Through the Femto Forum, Cellcom and other industry partners will develop standards, regulations, and the most efficient solutions to mobile coverage in the home.
Femtocells, which are the size of a DSL router or a cable modem, are compatible with existing handsets. “A femtocell is basically a personal cellular site,” Riordan explained. “Mobile phone users will be able to purchase and install an inexpensive femtocell for their home that utilizes the existing broadband Internet connection.”
The small “base station” promises to deliver big results. In addition to increased indoor coverage, a femtocell offers higher data rates, better voice quality and improved multi-media experiences.
