Evolution Data Optimized, "EV" or EVDO, might sound like something out of a science fiction novel. What it could mean to you is even more exciting. With it, you can surf the web, send a photograph or download a ringtone at lighting-fast, broadband speeds (about eight times faster than previously) all from your wireless phone. Currently, Cellcom has EVDO deployed throughout central and northeast Wisconsin and will continue to enhance its network throughout 2008.
How do I know if my Cellcom phone has EVDO?
If you own a Motorola Q, KRZR, RAZR V3M (red or silver), UTStarcom 8955, PalmTreo 700 or Blackberry device, you're EVDO ready. If you have a Motorola RAZR V3C (gunmetal gray), UTStarcom 6700 or a Kyocera KPC650 data card, and you would like to use EVDO, take your device to a Cellcom retail location and ask for a free EVDO software upgrade. When in the EVDO service area, an "EV" icon will appear on your phone screen to signal service availability.
What does it cost?
Data services such as web browsing, photo sharing, and ringtone downloads are billed per kilobyte. If you don't subscribe to a monthly data package, and you plan to use EVDO, you may want to add a data package. Add Web browsing for $9.95; or add Web browsing, text messaging and photo sharing for $14.95. As with all data activities, EVDO usage does not count against wireless plan minutes, and is included with the purchase of a data package.
What if I want EVDO but I don't have an EVDO capable phone?
Stop at any retail or agent location or call (800) 236-0055 to see when you're eligible to upgrade. And when it's time, remember to request an EVDO capable phone.
Data package prices are per line per month. In the absence of a monthly data package, all data usage is billed at 2c per kilobyte. EVDO coverage not available in all areas. Customers using Xtras Data Services are subject to Cellcom's Acceptable Use Policy.
