Do Not Get Phone
written by Amanda on
December 7th, 2012

I haven't even had this phone for 18 months and I have had to have the cameran and antenna replaced. In addition the (Current) Location is always giving me not only a different city but a different countries as well. Wouldn't care as much but I also use my phone as an alarm clock and sometimes it changes the current time to the time zone that "Current" location is in. The biggest problem is the storage. I always get a "phone storage is getting low" error. The worst part about this, is that I have 7.17 GB of 7.4GB available. If I am only using .23 GB of space, how can my storage space be low. I used to ignore the error but now I can't even open a text because the phone gives me an error of low storage.

Had this phone for a short period of time, has now been in for repairs several times over a period of 4 months and still not fixed. Tried replacement Desire - DID NOT WORK! THIS PHONE IS JUNK.

Great Phone

February 9th, 2012

The Desire is a great all-in-one phone. The OS update to 2.2 helps to eliminate some of the memory issues so you can install apps to the SD Card. I still wish the internal storage was bigger, however.

I have no issues with dropped calls and the phone operates great!

As for battery life. YOU MUST RESET THE PHONES BATTERY MEMORY for it to work properly! When I first got it, I had to charge it a lot. Since I reset it (1. Let phone die completely 2. Charge phone in the off position 3. Disconnect charger and power up phone 4. Charge phone with the phone running until fully charged.) it has been working GREAT! Also, be sure to turn off background data downloads and other services while you're not using them. I typically charge my phone every 3 days with normal use and I've had it since it first came out.

Oh, one other sure to get a protective case for it. There are great ones on Amazon that are rubbery plastic and will fully protect the phone from falls.

While dynamite at its launch (almost 2 years ago), this phone's software was poorly supported. Late upgrade, no further upgrades is devastating. Poor limited internal memory, inability to expand causes frequent "low memory" messages and failure to launch some programs. Awesome display and features, but limited due to the above. Buy a more recent phone with better memory handling.

This is probably the worse phone I've ever owned. If you like little storage, short battery life and dropped calls all day long then get this phone. Otherwise be smart and stay away. I am cancelling my smart phone service and going back to a regular old phone until i can upgrade. This thing is junk.

I wish I could give this zero stars because this phone is absolutely NOT worth the money. The DAY after I got the phone the camera stopped working. Luckily I was able to get a replacement because it was a defect. Guess what a few months later THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN! I sent the phone in to get repaired and not only did it come back in worse shape, it took over 3 months to repair. Also phones are capable of withstanding minor drops right? WRONG! A minor drop on CARPETING caused my screen to crack and the sides to start coming loose. I would not recommend this phone to anyone. It simply is not worth your money.

If this is what you are looking for...

Don't get me wrong, this phone is awesome if this is the kind of phone that you are looking for. If you want to up to date with your friends and the latest technology, I have no complaints for this phone. I have a kill app, and I only go online when I need it so I can save on battery life. I went from charging the phone every day to once ever few days.
However, the package that comes with it is not a cheap one (I pay $100 a month). I also only use this like a basic phone, I use it for texting, calling, and only browse the internet occasionally when I am not near a computer (which is not very often) and a package like this is not necessary for me so I am paying for something that I could be paying half for. Also, with the HTC desire, the texting is a little hinky because I will tap one person's name and it will come up someone that I have not texted for months just randomly. Then they text me back wondering what I am talking about. Kind of an inconvienent glitch.
I am glad that I tried it, but I can't wait to come down to a phone that is a little more in my price range.

Love it!!!

I've had my Desire for about 9 months. I recognize the downfalls that other reviewers note: short battery life, slight storage space. I, too, wish I could be less dependent on a charger. I charge my phone every night and it doesn't always make it the entire next day without needing a charge. You can exit the internet to save on battery life, but I choose not to do that. I have to clean out memory as well, but I'm not much of a multiple app user, so that's not a big deal to me. I instead look at what this phone DOES. I rarely use our home computer because I can use the Desire for anything I'd use the computer for. I feel like I have a mini laptop in my pocket at all times. The phone book, navigation, web browser, texting, and camera are super user-friendly as well. I look forward to smart phones in general having more storage and better battery life, certain that those features will be the new "norm" in years to come.

Not Worth It

December 17th, 2011

I got this phone 9 months ago and have continually had problems with it. I travel a lot so I need my phone to work and for the past 4-5 months the phone has been restarting itself, and dropping calls. Because of the low internal memory when an app updates automatically I am not able to sent or receive text messages and emails. Just to be clear I do not have a lot of apps on the phone I have 3 games and the apps that have come pre installed on the phone. Facebook is the biggest culprit for being a space hog. There is something wrong with the app in that instead if getting rid of the previous update when it has a new on it just piles them together and makes a bigger file. This is one of the many apps that come pre installed on the phone that I rarely use and would rather get rid of, but I cant.

Don't Get this Phone

In most respects, this is a great phone. The killer for me right now is that I cannot install any new apps without uninstalling something else. The internal storage of 140MB, is nearly nothing. Moving apps to SD does not save you since you cannot move entire applications (only certain app resources are actually put on the SD card, the rest remains on the internal storage). The 140MB storage is laughable compared to the 8GB offered by the Milestone X2. Especially now, app developers are expecting more and more storage on your device and apps are getting bigger by the day. I almost can't update my current apps for fear of filling my storage, which is a real fear because if you fill your internal storage you will not only not be able to install new apps, the phone needs a certain amount of space to send and receive text messages. There have been times that I have had to uninstall an app so I had enough storage to read my incoming texts! In short, don't get this device.

I have had this phone for over a year now and I am glad to say I will be getting a new one this week! Handling all the force closes of my apps, slow messaging, and insufficient storage space has been aggravating to say the very least. Not to mention the fact that I hardly get service in my own room. The phone also likes to skip around and tell me it's six hours later than it really is and labels all the texts as 1999 being the year. I think I have given it plenty of time and need to move on to something more reliable ASAP.

I like this phone but the only real problem I have with it is its lack of Internal phone memory. I have had it for a year now and have not had any problems with the phone I would strongly recommend a Otter Box case for the phone.

Only an OK phone.

I have had this phone for about a year. WAS a great phone until the Android 2.2 update. After the update, there was very little storage for apps and there were issues with the signal that drained the battery. Not all apps that I use can be moved to SD. Cellcom Fixed the issue but it still concerned me. The phone has been very durable. I am not exactly gentle with my phone all of the time. If it was not for the issues created by the Android 2.2 update I would have given this phone 5 stars.

Do not get this phone. I have had it only a few months and there is a problem with storage. Every time I upgrade a feature it over flows and space is too low. I only have two apps on my desire and I wish I could do more. I wish I could get a better phone. Battery life on this phone sucks. It last 4-5 hours with no use.

Worst Phone I Ever Had

Phone has enough memory for 4-7 apps max. Specs says it includes 512 MB storage, but only 60 MB is actually available after setup. The preloaded apps consume way too much space and are non-removable. Phone gets incredibly hot often, and has poor life, and drops calls all the time. My advice - keep looking

Do Not Desire

This phone has a lot of potential but it just does not perform for me. I can stand next to another Cellcom customer with a different brand phone and they can connect to the internet and be on a website and the Desire might take 1, 2, 3 minutes to load. Battery life is terrible 4-5 hours when I DON'T use it. Less if used. For the money this phone, the service, and required upgraded service plan are enough to get me to switch providers. Sorry Cellcom :-(

This is probably the best phone Cellcom has to offer. The screen is 10x clearer than the Milestone X, which is the main reason I got this phone. The AMOLED screen provides amazing visual quality. Battery life is also pretty good for a smart phone. I text A LOT, and this phone still lasts 8+ hours, even after sending/receiving hundreds of texts a day.

I loved this phone in the beginning. I've had it since February and the only thing I hated about it was the battery dies really fast. I have to have chargers everywhere I am. Now over the last 3 months I've been dropping calls, roaming in my own house and bad reception. CellCom was good the 1st time with my issues but this time they told me that they couldn't pin point who was dropping the calls so they didn't know how to fix it. When I called back after dropping 5 calls they told me that this phone has issues with dropped calls and other things and they have not given cellcom a fix yet. I dropped it off yesterday to have sent back to the manufacturer. I am very dissappointed with this phone, especially when they told me that they may not fix it because it shows some water damage and the phone has a rubber protector and has never been dropped in water or gotten wet so I'm not sure how there could be water damage. Very frustrating situation, I would not suggest this phone.

I have had the phone for about 6 months and since I got it I had nothing but problems! The battery dies so often that it doesnt even pay to have a phone? I constantly have to use my boyfriends phone. I can literally have a full battery and 2 hours later it will be on yellow with minimal use, a few texts. I would never recommend this phone to anyone. It gets extremely HOT by the buttons and battery and when they sent it out they told me it had water damage and thats why, however someone else with the same phone had the same problems and they replaced the battery, Im just fed up with Cellcom and this phone. :( not happy at all.

I'm giving this thing 3 stars because the one feature that I can't stand on here (as with the Hero), is with -2 stars. The fact that you cannot put apps on your external media card is horrible. I filled this thing up in less than a month, re-loaded it to factory and have filled it up again. They need to put out 2.3 Android update so I can use it. If not for that, speed is awesome, service is excellent and even battery is not bad at all. It would be 5 stars if not for the space thing.

Had this phone since it came out, I am heavy user, web, e-mail, texting. I'm a college student, just to give you the idea of the usage. This phone is very good, one of the better phones on the market and best phone from Cellcom. However, it's the INCREDIBLY slow updates from Cellcom that makes this phone stay painfully behind its potential. The phone has had an update out for almost a year now and Cellcom is the only provider that has not released this update. There is VERY LITTLE room to install apps and this update fixes that major issue by allowing apps to be installed on an SD card. Come on Cellcom

I absolutely love this phone! My mother and I went to get this phone for her, and I knew she wouldn't like it because it's "high tech" and I warned her. A week or two later she said she hated it cuz she didn't understand it and wanted to get rid of it. I, on the other hand, adored the phone and played with it. So we went to the store and switched phones, she got my LG Script and I got her HTC Droid Desire XD Thing is my dad isn't too happy about it due to the fact the billing price, but there's a mail in rebate worth it.
I LOVE THIS PHONE, because it is fast and efficient. Easy to understand and great with apps. I love it I love it I love it :) I suggest getting it.

I've had this phone for about six months now, and all of a sudden the service keeps dropping out, texts won't send, and the backlight doesn't work. When I make a phone call and put the phone to my ear, it stays lit up even though it's supposed to go dark. When I take the phone away from my ear, it won't light back up until the other person has hung up.

Both my fiance and I got this phone for Christmas! We both LOVE it! The phone is very easy to use, light weight and convenient. The touch screen works really good. The only thing that is i guess "bad" about the phone is that if you "play" on it or surf the web a lot the battery will die down pretty fast. At first we were charging our battery twise a day because it was new and we had to play with the phone a lot. Now the battery only gets charged at night. Great phone for people on the go especially with the talk to text function. 5 STARS!!

Awesome phone. Everything about it works well together and it is a sturdy device. Only shortcoming is the battery life; You are able to download apps from the android market that increase the life of the battery though, which is a huge plus. Also, texting and emailing composing is a breeze with HTC's autocorrect feature. Would reccommend this to anyone!

One heck of a jump in performance from the Hero to the Desire. Virtually no lag in making phone calls or accessing programs. Handset sounds better too. One caveat though, the Cellcom version has the FM radio disabled. Not certain why. The manual shows you how to use the radio, but sadly, not in this phone.

I don't know what else to say about this phone other than it is hands down the best phone I have ever had. I just got this phone, so something may come up, but I doubt it...Cellcom/HTC really hit a homerun on this phone. The only thing that I am waiting for now is the 2.2 platform as opposed to the 2.1. Which I am told by Cellcom employees that the 2.2 is on it's way. There is going to be a very large amount of enhancements in the 2.2 as opposed to the 2.1. Regardless, YOU WON'T be disappointed!!

I got this phone the day it came out and I absolutely love it. It does everything you'd expect it to and more. The seven home pages comes in very handy, because their are soo many apps that you can download on the android market. The only downfall to the phone is that as of now everything is saved to the internal memory and you can't transfer it to the external sd card. Other than that small problem this is the best phone that I have ever had.
