What is international long distance?
International Long Distance allows you to dial an international exchange from the United States. You will be able to make international long distance calls even when roaming, as long as the roaming partner allows international long distance dialing. In order to have international long distance capability on your phone, you need to contact Cellcom Customer Care at 1-800-236-0055 to have a feature added to your account.
I am going overseas next month. Will my phone work?
Contact Cellcom at 1-800-236-0055 to learn about our international roaming options and to find out if your handset will work internationally.
Who can make international long distance calls?
Customers that subscribe to an eligible calling plan and have an international long distance feature on their line will have the ability to make international long distance calls.
What minutes apply when making an international long distance call?
When you place an international long distance call from your home calling plan area, you will be charged an international long distance rate and you will use your included minutes from your rate plan. If you used all of your included minutes from your plan, you will be charged the additional airtime rate. If you are making a call while roaming in the United States, you will pay the roaming rate and pay the international long distance rate.
How do I get one of the international long distance features added to my line?
Simply call Cellcom Customer Care at (800)236-0055 or visit your local Cellcom retail or authorized agent location for assistance.
How do I make an international long distance call?
To make an international call, simply:
- Dial the international access code +, 001 or 011
- Dial the appropriate country code for the country you are calling
- Dial the number you are calling
- Press Send
Where can I go to learn more about the device that I will be using when traveling abroad?
For general device information, please visit the appropriate device page on cellcom.com. If you don't see your iPhone or Samsung device listed, be sure to check the previously sold devices. If you do not have an international capable device, Cellcom will loan you a world device (iPhone or Samsung).
Will picture messaging work?
It is unlikely that picture messaging will work when traveling internationally.
If I want to sign up for international roaming, how would I do that?
If you currently have a device that is capable of international roaming, stop in at any Cellcom retail or agent location to get set up. If you do not have a phone that is capable, contact any Cellcom retail or agent location to see if they have an international loaner device. To check to see if your device is capable, go to the device page and click on the specifications tab.
If I have an issue with my phone while traveling internationally, what do I do?

When using the rental device in the U.S. before traveling internationally, how will I be charged?
You will be charged based on your current wireless rate plan for voice, texting and data as long as you have your domestic Cellcom SIM in your device. If you have your international SIM in your device, you will be charged international roaming rates.
When traveling internationally, do my domestic rate plan rates apply for voice, texting and data?
No, you will be charged different rates when traveling internationally. Please refer to International Roaming Rates. If you check your voice mail while roaming internationally, you will be charged the airtime fee for that call. If you receive a text message when traveling internationally, you will be charged a fee for the incoming message.
If I am not planning on using data when traveling, can I have Cellcom turn it off so I am not charged for any unexpected data usage?
Yes, Cellcom can shut data off while you are internationally roaming.

Is the international device capable of using WiFi?
Yes, certain smartphone models are capable of Wi-Fi and should work on most Wi-Fi networks when internationally roaming.
Can I use Wi-Fi even though I have data disabled?
Yes, if your device is capable of using Wi-Fi, it should work on a Wi-Fi signal even if data is disabled.
Will Cellcom alert me of my rates when traveling internationally?
Cellcom will send a text message to your device when traveling abroad to inform you of your rates – voice, text and data.
Am I responsible for any usage on the rental device when it has been rented to me?
Yes, you are responsible for all charges applied to usage while you have the rental equipment.
When traveling internationally, what do I have to dial in order to make a call back to the U.S.?
Dial +1 area code and phone number.
Does the international device support Exchange email?
Yes. Cellcom suggests that the customer works with their IT dept. to provide account information which will be needed for the email to be set-up.
If I have a gmail account, can I upload my contacts to the international device?
Yes.
Do I need an international roaming solution when traveling to Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands?
Yes, you will need an international roaming SIM.
Is there anything I should research prior to traveling abroad?
Yes, you should find out how to make local calls and what the emergency numbers are in the country you will be visiting.
Will the international roaming charges appear on my Cellcom invoice?
Yes, the international roaming charges will appear on your invoice. The usage will be broken out into the following categories:
- Voice Minutes: Intl Roaming
- Incoming text: QT Intl Rm In
- Data: Intl Data (kb)
- Outgoing text: QT Intl Rm Out
Will I be charged for the device rental?
No, you will not be charged for the device rental unless the device is damaged, lost, or stolen.
Can I use my own phone when traveling?
Yes, but only if you have an approved international capable device. If you have a different device that is a world phone, you may be able to purchase a SIM card from another vendor while traveling. You can also rent an approved world device from Cellcom.
Is there anything else I need to do before I travel?
Yes, you will need a SIM card that will be provisioned to your handset for international traveling. You can stop in at any Cellcom retail or agent location for the SIM card.

Yes, we suggest using our international roam solution when traveling to Canada. The rates for this service are listed below:
