The funds are set to aid a trip to Trees for Tomorrow (another Green Gift recipient) for approximately 140 seventh-grade students. This immersive environmental science activity provides hands-on learning opportunities in forestry, animal ecology, and water resources.

Cellcom, a pioneer in the wireless and broadband sector, is making waves with its unique program called Green Gifts. Utilizing funds sourced from recycled cell phones, the program supports environmental projects across various communities. In the latest round, three Shawano County nonprofits benefited from this thoughtful initiative.
Shawano Community Middle School, Navarino Nature Center, and Shawano County Friends of the Mountain Bay Trail were the proud recipients of this year's Green Gifts.
Next, Friends of Shawano County Mountain Bay Trail was awarded a $700 Green Gift. The group is responsible for the maintenance, promotion, and sustainability of the Mountain Bay Trail. This grant will help add native plants to the trail information center surroundings, a project lined up for spring 2024.
Lastly, Navarino Nature Center received a $600 Green Gift, aimed at supporting summer day camps. These camps invite young children to explore the great outdoors while connecting with nature. They also encourage intergenerational participation, fostering a deep-seated love for the environment.
In total, 26 organizations were endowed with $23,000 in Green Gifts from Cellcom this year. The innovative program is fueled by the proceeds of Cellcom's cell phone recycling program, effectively channeling it into green initiatives.
