Cellcom's Green Gifts Initiative: A Win for Environment and Door County Nonprofits

Cellcom has recently announced the beneficiaries of its annual environmental funding initiative, the Green Gifts program. This exceptional program channels funds generated from recycled cell phones back into environmental projects. This year, three notable Door County nonprofits have been honored with the Green Gifts. They include Crossroads at Big Creek, Open Door Bird Sanctuary, and Door County Environmental Council.

By working to preserve Door County's natural landscapes, the Door County Environmental Council will utilize a generous $2,500 Green Gift provided by Cellcom. The funds will be supporting beach water testing at seven new beaches, boosting testing frequency at four existing beaches, and establishing beach water quality warning lights at Ephraim Public Beach and Nicolete Beach in Peninsula State Park. Such measures are paramount to safeguard beachgoers and keep a close eye on potential threats to water purity.

The Open Door Bird Sanctuary, established in 2010, has its core focus on environmental and wildlife education. With Cellcom’s $1,000 Green Gift, it plans to enlarge its bird care building. This expansion will pave the way for accommodating more birds and continuing their invaluable educational work throughout the county, taking their efforts to new heights.

Crossroads at Big Creek, a passionate advocate for education about the land's ecological history, intends to utilize its $300 Green Gift from Cellcom for creating a map for self-navigated historical hikes. This innovative venture will allow visitors to trace the property's historical transformations and comprehend its impact on the land over eras.

This year, the Green Gifts program has allocated a total of $23,000 to 26 deserving green organizations. The funds are a result of Cellcom's mobile phone recycling program where customers and community members are encouraged to bring their old or unwanted phones for reuse and recycling. This recycling initiative not only aids in minimizing electronic waste but also contributes to supporting green nonprofit causes.

Cellcom's dedication towards environmental sustainability is clearly showcased through the Green Gifts program. By endorsing local nonprofits committed to environmental causes, Cellcom invigorates the community to be proactive participants in environmental conservation. To footnote, Cellcom's recycling program has successfully generated a remarkable $604,206 for local nonprofits over two decades.
